Internet Marketing
As the world becomes increasingly dependent on the worldwide web, old-fashioned methods of marketing are quickly being replaced by new and innovative methods of internet marketing. Internet marketing allows companies to reach a vast target audience and receive feedback on how that target audience is responding to their advertising campaign.
With the introduction of social media facilities such as Facebook and Twitter, internet marketing has never been more important. Facebook in particular can use information from the users profile to match into advertising campaign, for example if the user likes to play netball they can link it with netball advertising, perhaps for a new league or for netball products, therefore allowing the companies to target their consumers directly and the people that are interested in their products.
Most free iPhone applications also come with some form of advertising designed to promote a specific brand often associated with the application. With over 350,000 apps currently in the market, this is a huge base for an advertising campaign. Most people would prefer free apps to those that are paid for and don’t even realise the advertising that goes with them, but it is an easy way to hit a target audience with relatively little overheads.
Internet marketing allows clients to reach a large consumer base in often just the click of a button and more specifically it allows companies to better track their target audiences and work with what they learn to provide more direct advertising. They can work with online companies to ensure that people who are genuinely interested in their products are being advertised to.
Internet marketing also allows companies to better track how their marketing is being used and how effective it has been. Webmasters can track how many clicks onto the advertising, where from, who and where the person has then clicked after to work out how effective the advertising campaigns have been. This data is all recorded and gives good feedback as to how improvements can be made, creating a greater revenue for the company.
In contrast, it can often be hard to ascertain how effective other mediums of advertising have been. For example, a billboard might be expensive but companies have no real way of tracking how many people have seen it or how people have responded to it. The same could be said of a newspaper advertisement or a television commercial. With internet marketing it gives the company immediate feedback so they can improve and target their marketing audience.
E-mail marketing is a very important aspect of internet marketing, it allows companies to market directly at their target audience. Most business people would check their e-mails on a daily basis. With the introduction of portable technologies such as laptops, blackberries and iPhones, many professionals are able to check their e-mail on the move. E-mail marketing therefore directly targets the audience, right to their handheld device. E-mail marketing is also a fairly simple and easy to use process for the clients, enabling them to reach a large target audience with just the click of a button.
